Communities First Consultation

Dear Colleague,

As you will be aware, the current Communities First Programme is coming to an end in March 2012.

Communities First is a Welsh Government Programme for tackling poverty and social disadvantage in the most deprived communities across Wales. Since it began in 2001 the programme, which works through local partnerships, has been successful in helping local people gain the skills and knowledge needed to make positive changes to their communities.

As from April 2012 Communities First will run as a Community Focussed Programme supporting the Welsh Government’s Anti-Poverty Agenda. It will support the most disadvantaged people in our most deprived areas with the aim of contributing to alleviating persistent poverty. Focussed on community supported actions, it will work alongside other programmes to narrow the education, skills, economic and health gaps between the most deprived and more affluent areas of Wales. We highly value your Partnership Working to date which has resulted in positive outcomes for the Communities First areas in Carmarthenshire and hope this will continue in the future Programme.

We would like to invite you to respond to the proposals, please see the 15 questions at the end of the attached consultation document. We are in the process of collating a Carmarthenshire-wide response and would value your input. Responses will be required by Wednesday 7th  September.
